Monument to Inbetween-ness

Projection Art Installation

Harvard GSD, Installation (Delara Rahim)

This installation is a monument that creates an instrument for reading poetry about the state of inbetweenness; exploring ideas on the issue of identity and the idea of finding oneself. It is a monument to time and soft spaces; a nonphysical space that is felt by me as an Iranian-American and by others that are in-between states, homes and identities. This monument is blurring the edges of spaces, paths and poetry. A path is a space that is inbetween 2 points (start and destination). This path is exploring transparencies, shadows and materiality along the way. Walking through these strips of translucent fabrics, the passenger is in between lines, in between interior and exterior space and in between 2 points of travel; reading fragmented poetry slideshow projected on the material and the body, distributing the poetry spatially around the body.

The projected texts along this path are glimpses of “Another Birth” by Forough Farrokhzad, an Iranian poet, finding herself through her poetry while addressing social, political and feminist issues. The projected texts create a level ephemerality and interaction with the space that is constantly changing with time.
