Ping Pong Diplomacy _ Mexico City was a participatory public art installation inspired by the historic 1970s Ping Pong Diplomacy exchanges. It was set just behind the Benito Juárez Monument—honoring a former president and champion of peacebuilding—and in the shadow of the country’s Secretariat of Foreign Affairs, the installation transformed public Ping Pong tables into a civic gesture and urban performance. Through play, we sought to spark connection, generate joy, and reimagine the possibilities of democratic public space.
This multi-year initiative revives the values of sportsmanship, friendship, and play amid rising geopolitical tensions. It is a social experiment inviting strangers, friends, and even rivals to engage in spontaneous dialogue—building trust and a sense of shared purpose through the simple, accessible act of play.
Thank you again to MEXTRÓPOLI | Festival de Arquitectura y Ciudad. and Arquine for the incredible support, and to Andrea Griborio, Miquel Adria, and Anna Adrià Reventós for making it possible.
